  WeirWood again from midday was pleasant at the west end. 11 Wigeon today plus 2 Tufted Duck, 17 Mandarins and 4 Teal.   WeirWood from a damp dawn at the dam where it was quiet. Here 5 Great-crested Grebes, a 1st winter Common Gull, 15 Black-headed and 4 Herring Gulls was about it on the water.   East End. A Curlew flew over calling loudly, heading NE. Not much on the water, 4 GC Grebes, 2 Mandarins, 2 Egyptian Geese, 11 Canadas, 2 Mistle Thrushes behind the dam, 5 Jays, Raven, Bullfinch, Marsh Tit.

  On Friday afternoon a Marsh Tit was singing in the carpark. As it moved around it was briefly very close in the branches above the bench! I was confident with my ID and Stephen helped nail the song 100% by seeing the bird’s moving bill!

  WeirWood in light rain produced Great Egret at the west end. A Water Rail was feeding under the feeders with a male Pheasant. Don’t think I’ve seen those two feeding together before. On the water Little Grebe and 7 Wigeon plus 7 Great-crested Grebes.   WeirWood, a late morning brief stop at the west end produced a superb pair of Goshawks displaying over and in front of Admirals Wood, also Great Egret flew north towards the dam. Little on the water except 2 Little Grebes but no Goosanders today. Not bad though for 20 minutes.

For me 2 Goosanders both redheads were seen, Red Kite, 7 Buzzards, Great Egret, Little Egret, 2 Little Grebe and 16 Redpolls all at the west end.   A quick west End Heronry survey confirmed 27 active Heron nests and 4 active Cormorant nests so far. However there are many more nests, those were just the ones where birds were seen at the nest.
