Whillet’s:- Redwing (tree-line roost count in meadows) – between 15:45 & 16:30 I counted 380 Redwings that flew in, usually entering in small groups of up to 20 at a time.  Tawny Owl heard, 1m Stonechat seen, c200 Starling flew over.
West End:- 1m Tufted Duck is a recent arrival.

Wetland Bird Survey
All Reservoir total:-  2 Grey Heron,  7 Mandarin, 43 Mallard + 1 white feral duck & 3 hybrids, 13 Moorhen, 2 Grey Wagtail, 5 Pied Wagtail.
Dam End:- 1 Mute Swan, 18 imm Herring Gull flyover,  1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Meadow Pipit flyover, 2 Song Thrush, Chaffinch, 18 Goldfinch, 6 Siskin.
West End:-  80 Great Crested Grebe, 37 Cormorant, 236 Greylag + 1 Greylag hybrid, 4 Egyptian Geese, 4 Gadwall, 27 Teal, 1f Shoveler, 2 Sparrowhawk, 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 2 Coot, 1 Green Sandpiper, 39 Black-headed Gull, 1 Common Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Fieldfare, 1 Coal Tit, 3 Jay, 2 Raven.
Whillets:- 24 Pheasants, Water Rail heard, pair of Stonechat, 1 Mistle Thrush flyover, 4 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Bullfinch. Between 14:05 to 16:15 about 116 Reed Buntings came in to the reed-bed roost.
At dusk about 180 Redwing were counted dropping down into a tree lined roost area. Numerous Jackdaws flew over.

West End: Car park 10,02-11,50:- 3 Mute Swan, 297 Greylag Geese, 1 Canada Geese, 1 Hybrid Goose, 7 Gadwall 5m+ 2f, 10 Mallard, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Great Egret elusive, south side, east of hide,  13 Great Crested Grebe, 10 Moorhen, 2 Coot, 9 Cormorant,  63 Black-headed Gulls, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Stock Dove, 1 Carrion Crow,
Around Feeders:- 3 Goldfinch, 1 Chaffinch m, 1 Nuthatch, 2 Great Tit, 3 Blue Tit, 1 Coal Tit,  2 Pheasant, 1 Robin, numerous Woodpigeon.

Reed Bed roost count 14:50 to 16:30 –  88 Reed Bunting came into the roost.
West End:- of note – 2 Egyptian Geese, 7 Snipe, 19 Teal, 3 Gadwall, 1 Mute Swan, 20 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Pied Wagtail.

Today’s ringing in the study area was interesting. While setting up I noticed a few Goldcrests around and thought there was a good possibility of catching some. But instead I caught a 1st year male Firecrest, which was a surprise. My first for Weir Wood. Other birds of note included: Marsh Tits (one of them a new bird); Coal Tit; Blue Tits; Great Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker; Blackbird and a male Bullfinch first ringed in 2016 in excellent condition.
Other sightings:- Buzzard, 2 Siskin, 8 Redwing, 2 Kingfishers, Treecreeper, Nuthatch and a Snipe on the waters edge in the study area.

Whillet’s:- 6 Greenfinch, 2 Chaffinch, 6 Goldfinch, 5 Lesser Redpolls, 8 Siskin, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 Mistle Thrush, 6 Fieldfare, 14 Redwing, 1 Kestrel, 3 Jay, 200 Starlings around, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Grey Wagtail.
West End:- 4 Mute Swan, 22 Teal. Also Firecrest + Marsh Tit in hand at ringing site. Also 352 Greylag Geese (Bob Johnson).

Whillet’s:- 117 Reed Buntings roosted in the Reed Bed between 14:45-16:30, 2 Grey Wagtails, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Water Rail on Meadow Pond, 300+ Redwings roosted in hedge between meadows 2/3, 2 Kestrel.
