Early morning ringing – interesting birds included:– Willow Warbler (picture), Chiffchaffs, Goldcrests, Marsh Tit, Blackcaps and a juvenile male Sparrowhawk (picture).

Whillet’s:- 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 20+ Chiffchaff, 4 Common Whitethroat, 4 Reed Warblers, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Mandarin, 2 juvenile Grey Herons.
West End:- 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Kingfisher, 5 Common Terns, 8 Mandarins.

Whillet’s:- 1 Buzzard, 1 male Great Spotted Woodpecker (see pic), 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Jay, 43 Goldfinch feeding on thistle heads.
Also seen on a short survey check:- 5 Grass Snake (see pic), 10 Common Lizard many were this years young sun bathing on top of the black fibre refugia sheets in the meadows (see pic), 1 Slow Worm, 2 Field Vole. A male Emerald Damselfly (see pic), 7 Blue Tailed Damselflies, 1 Hornet, 1 Noon fly (see pic – these flies lay their eggs in dung and other rotting matter and are common).

Ringing early this morning – of note two juvenile Bullfinch, Blackcap and Chiffchaffs. The study area was quiet this morning apart from the noise of the Terns.
