6th December 2016 – Work Party
Following recent problems with boats coming into the Nature Reserve illegally we have put up new warning signs. We hope that boat users will be aware that they are doing wrong if they go over the buoy rope and that they will stay out of the reserve in future. (See “Photos” tab.)

West End:- 1f Goldeneye, 1 Snipe, 65 Teal, 37 Gadwall, 1f Tufted Duck, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3 Common Gull, 95 Black-headed Gulls.
Dam End:- 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Coot, 1 Mistle Thrush.
Whillet’s:- 1 Kestrel, 1 Mute Swan flew over, 24 Fieldfares, 2 Reed Buntings, 4 Song Thrush.

West End:- 1f Goldeneye, 2f Tufted Duck, 1f Shoveler, 1m Pochard, 1m Wigeon, 1 Snipe, 60+ Teal, 27 Gadwall, 28 Great Crested Grebes, 196 Greylag Geese.

West End:- 34 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron, 193 Greylag including 2 hybrids, 1f Goldeneye, 1m Pochard, 1m Wigeon, 2f Tufted Duck, 27 Gadwall, 43 Teal, 3 Buzzard, 8 Moorhen, 19 Pheasant, (2 Red-legged Partridge in Legsheath Lane), 4 Snipe, 6 Common Gull, 1 Stock Dove, 2 Kingfisher, 1 Pied Wagtail, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Dunnock, 1 Nuthatch, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Marsh Tit, 5+ Long-tailed Tit flew over, 7 Goldfinch.

About 11am in Legsheath Lane:- a totally black Pheasant with 4 ‘normal’ hens.

West End car park:- (13.40-14.36) 165 Greylag Geese, 76 Teal, 13 Gadwall, 12 Mallard, 3 Shoveler, 1 Wigeon, 2 Moorhen, 1 Coot, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 15 Cormorant, 1 Buzzard, 70 Black-headed Gull, 1 Common Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1Pheasant. On the feeders: 7 Blue Tits, 3 Goldfinch, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Great Tit, 1 Chaffinch, 1 Blackbird, 1 Robin, 1 Fox seen crossing on the ice.

West End:- 76 Teal, 4 Wigeon, 23 Gadwall, 1m + 2f Pochard, 1f Goldeneye, 3 Mandarin, 3 Snipe, 1 Kingfisher.
Whillet’s:- (15:15-16:15) 58 Reed Buntings roosted in Reed Bed, 3 Kingfishers, 4 Snipe flew west, 1f Sparrowhawk, 22 Redwing, 300 Starlings west.

West End: 182 Greylag + 1 hybrid, 1 Grey Heron, 1m + 1f Wigeon, 1m Shoveler, 22 Gadwall, 37 Teal, 1m + 3f Pochard, 1f Goldeneye, 1 Buzzard, 2 Stock Dove, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Nuthatch, 1 Marsh Tit, Coal Tit. Peregrine over in front of hide.
Whillet’s Meadows:- 2m + 1f Bullfinches, Sparrowhawk, f Stonechat, Kingfisher.

West End:- 1f Goldeneye, 213 Greylag Geese, 12 Teal, 17 Gadwall, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Nuthatch.
Dam End:- 64 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Meadow Pipit, 3 Mistle Thrush, 2 Reed Buntings, 4 Grey Herons, 3 Common Gull.
