WeirWood early afternoon at the dam. 2 Goshawks were seen along the south bank a male and female. On the water 3 gulls 2 summer Black-headed and and ad’ Kittiwake. Looked a bit sick sadly. On the dam a pair of Grey Wagtails and a summer Dunlin that was flushed by a workman and flew south. 6 Great-crested Grebes were all displaying and a single Teal was seen lastly, I left at 14:00hrs.

WeirWood from dawn at the dam to start on this beautiful sunny day. Here in the c/pk 2 Fieldfares and a singing Chiffchaff. A Marsh Tit was noted here and 4 Siskins. On the dam male Grey Wagtail and 4 Pied. The water was like a millpond, where 6 Great-crested Grebes were seen, 5 Herring Gulls and just a few Black-headed Gulls. Overhead 2 Ravens and 2 Red Kites, 3 Buzzards, whilst along the south bank a female Goshawk was seen quite early at 7:15hrs enjoying the early sunshine. A Blackcap was singing behind the fishing lodge whilst along the north bank near the dam Marsh Tit, Treecreeper, 6 Lesser Redpolls and 3 Jays.

Highlights from yesterday’s Tuesday Work Party. West end: flying and singing Woodlark, plus most of the usual birds reported. A mole was seen in car park area, Terrapin at Heronry area. Whillet’s: Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, 3 Buzzards, Jack Snipe flushed from back meadow, 2 Kingfisher, Fieldfare and Bullfinch.

Mid morning from Lay-by 3 Red Kites, 4 Buzzards, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Raven & 2 Goshawks M/F.
Stubble field 50 Linnets, 4 Goldfinch & 2 Chaffinch.
11 Redwings, 9 Fieldfares over, 1 Chiffchaff & Marsh Tit.
On water just 3 Mandarins, 11 Canada Geese & 9 GCG. -

Singing Blackcap at the dam end near the turning triangle. Not much else to report here. 2 LBB Gulls, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 1 male Mandarin, pair of Buzzards displaying, Marsh Tit, 2 Redwings, plenty of common birdsong.

WeirWood was almost devoid of birds at the dam, just a pair of Grey Wagtails on the dam at 8:00hrs. No gulls or grebes at all. At the west end 2 Little Egrets, 3 male Mandarins, 2 Jays, a singing Chiffchaff and Nuthatches. Others inc’ 2 Teal, 4 Redwings over and the Water Rail again by the feeders. Very quiet generally.
