    Ringing early this morning to lunchtime of note:- Whitethroats, Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps.

    West End:- Red Kite flew West, 3 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 36 Lapwing, 2 Teal, 1 Buzzard, 7 Common Terns, 1 Sand Martin, 35 Swallows.
    Dam End:- 1 Common Sandpiper, 49 Herring Gull, 7 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Egyptian Goose, 66 Canada Geese, 38 Greylag Geese, 7 Common Tern, 1 Lapwing, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Chiffchaff, 3 House Martins, 4 Swifts, 1 Green Woodpecker.
    Southern Water Lagoon:- 1 adult Little Grebe with 2 young, 1 juvenile Great Crested Grebe.

    Southern Water Lagoon Pond:- 1 Adult Little Grebe with 2 young.
    Dam End:- 2 Common Sandpipers, 35 Herring Gulls, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 1m+1f+1Juv Blackcap, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Buzzard, 3 Chiffchaff, 4 Sand Martins, 4 House Martins.
    West End:- 3 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Little Egret, 2 Teal, 30 Lapwing, 2 Kingfisher.
    Whillet’s:- 2 Reed Warbler, 1 Kestrel, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Kingfisher, 9 Common Lizards..

    West End:- 4 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 5 Lapwing, 1 Teal, 1 Kingfisher, 2 young Great Crested Grebe, 1 Moorhen, 5 Common Tern, 2 Stock Dove, 6 Swallow, 1 Grey Wagtail, 2 Pied Wagtail.
    Whillet’s:- 1 Buzzard, 1 male Great Spotted Woodpecker (see pic), 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Jay, 43 Goldfinch feeding on thistle heads.
    Also seen on a short survey check:- 5 Grass Snake (see pic), 10 Common Lizard many were this years young sun bathing on top of the black fibre refugia sheets in the meadows (see pic), 1 Slow Worm, 2 Field Vole. A male Emerald Damselfly (see pic), 7 Blue Tailed Damselflies, 1 Hornet, 1 Noon fly (see pic – these flies lay their eggs in dung and other rotting matter and are common).

    Ringing early this morning – of note two juvenile Bullfinch, Blackcap and Chiffchaffs. The study area was quiet this morning apart from the noise of the Terns.

    West End:- 4 Green Sandpipers, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Teal, 2 Kingfishers, 1 Coot.

    West End:- 4 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 101 Greylag Geese, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1m Tufted Duck, 1 Sparrowhawk, 3 Buzzard, 2 Goldcrest plus 2 juveniles being fed by adults in car park, 2 juvenile Robins.1 Holly Blue Butterfly.

    Evening ~ West End:- 40 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret, 9 Mandarin, 4 Green Sandpiper, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Kingfisher, c25 Swallow, c50 Sand Martin visited briefly at dusk, 4 Pied Wagtail. 3 Fallow Deer.
    Dam End:- 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 100+ Black-headed Gull, 15 House Martin, c80 Swallow, 140 flyover Jackdaw.

    Ringing this morning for a few hours in the study area. Of note – 2 Marsh Tit, 2 Reed Warbler, 2 Bullfinch, some Chiffchaff and Blackcaps. But best of all was a juvenile Spotted Flycatcher. Silver Washed Fritillary butterfly.
    Two Ravens and a juvenile Buzzard calling out all morning. A flock of House Martins over the reservoir and two Kingfishers flying together. Also good views of the Terns fishing right near the hide. Over the last month 3 Kingfishers have been caught; two were together – one adult and one juvenile.
