Red-headed ladybird Rhyzobius lophanthae. It was on the willows near the edge of the first field by the reedbed. This is an Australian species that was brought to Italy in the very early part of the last century to control scale insects. It has spread into more parts of Europe. The first one was found in England at Morden Park Hall on April Fools Day 1999. It is now being found on conifers such as leylandii and is spreading in England. It has been found rarely on some deciduous trees, but I don’t know if it’s been recorded on Willow.
