Whillet’s:- Reed-bed counts from 14:40 to 16:45 ~ 75 Reed Buntings roosted over this period mainly singles but up to 4 in a group, 46 Starlings roosted in flocks of 4, 40 and 2 (more groups flew over but kept going north possibly towards Hedgecourt reed-bed).
Within the reed-bed a Water Rail and Moorhen were heard, 2 Kingfishers were seen flying over the reed-bed and along the river.
In the trees were a feeding flock of about 15 Siskin, 3 Long-tailed Tit, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch heard, 1 Goldfinch, at dusk 2 Song Thrushes were singing loudly, and a pair of Tawny Owls were calling to each other, plus another was heard calling further away. Pheasants heard & seen roosting in the trees.
Flyovers: Black-headed Gulls, Crows, 1 Grey Heron, quite a few Redwings with biggest flock of 4, 3 Song Thrushes, 150+ flock of Woodpigeons headed West, 2 Buzzards, 4 flocks of Mandarin (6, 6, 5 + 2 = 19) heading North at dusk to roost elsewhere.
