WeirWood from 7:30hrs on a beautiful sunny morning. At the west end 10 Lapwings, Green Sandpiper, 4 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, Shoveller, Little Grebe, 11 Great-crested Grebes and several Chiffchaffs noted. At 7:45hrs an Osprey flew over the c/pk headed south east. 2 Snipe eventually emerged from under the heronry plus a Common Sandpiper. The highlight of the day so far was the 2 Spoonbills that flew over headed south west at 8:02hrs. A Kingfisher put in a brief fly by appearance as did 4 Stock Doves. A Red Kite flew over, not seen one for a few days. At Whillett’s a Sedge Warbler again plus more Chiffchaffs and 2 Greenfinches. A Water Rail was squealing here too, nice to know they’re around. Not a bad day by comparison to recent quiet visits. At the dam 74 Black-headed Gulls, a Common Sandpiper on the dam, plus 2 Herring Gulls along the north shore and 15 Great-crested Grebes scattered about. It clouded over by 8:30hrs but it didn’t improve anything here. Generally very quiet. I left soon after happy though.
