WeirWood early morning, bright but quite cloudy and 4oC. Started at the dam where 2 Little-ringed Plovers were still about but no other waders. Over the water 6 Common Terns and ca200 hirundines, mainly Barn Swallows but several House Martins and 3 Swifts too. A Tufted Duck male and Little Egret were along the north bank where no less than 6 Hobbies were out early as the sun peaked through, some of which were perched up. 6 Great-crested Grebes were noted mainly in pairs. The only gulls were ad’ Herring and Black-headed, just a single of each. 2 Buzzards, male Sparrowhawk and male Kestrel were noted. Moving on to the west end the Black-headed Gulls and Common Terns were all present. 2 Mandarins were noted, 4 Great-crested Grebes and a Kingfisher too. 2 Reed Warblers were in song as were 2 Garden Warblers whilst in the c/pk again a Marsh Tit was present plus several Blackcaps still. At Whillett’s 2 Reed Warblers were in song plus Reed Bunting male, Garden Warbler and Kingfisher. A Red Kite flew over here as well. Moving on to the north bank where Green Woodpecker male and female were noted, also 2 Jays, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Marsh Tit, 1st year Herring Gull and one of the Hobbies. I left the area at 9:00hrs.
