Ringing this morning was quiet in Whillet’s. It appears that most of the Whitethroats have moved on – we only saw two. Species ringed: Blackcap, Chifchaff, Marsh Tit (all juveniles), Dunnock and Blue Tit. A Great Spotted Woodpecker was re-trapped – originally ringed in 2016.
Other species of note: Kingfisher and Willow Warbler.
Yesterday we received a ringing recovery for a Reed Warbler that was ringed on 28 July 2019 as a juvenile and was re-trapped on 22 August at Icklesham; showing the route it has taken to cross the channel. -

Ringing in Whillet’s proved migration is well under way with a number of warbler species caught, including: Grasshopper Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler and Whitethroat. It is amazing that a Willow Warbler with a wing of 67mm and weighing only 8.2g can migrate to sub-Saharan Africa. Other birds of note – Raven, 2 Buzzards, Kingfisher, 2 Reed Bunting and Marsh Tit, about 20 Whitethroats and a similar number of Chiffchaffs.
