    West End:- 24 Teal, 3 Snipe, 3 Lapwings, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Mandarin, 1 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 60 House Martin, Marsh Tit heard.
    Dam End:- 1 Hobby, 3 Meadow Pipits, 2 Chiffchaff heard, 4 House Martin, 2 Egyptian Geese.
    Whillet’s:- 1 Stonechat, 3 Chiffchaff, 2 Ravens, 1 Green Woodpecker. (Brown Hairstreak eggs found).

    Whillet’s:- 9 Linnets, 1 juv Hobby, 10 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 5 Greenfinch.
    West End:- 3 Teal, 2 Gadwall, 1 Snipe, 3 Lapwing, 1 Green Sandpiper, 6 Buzzards.
    Dam End:- 1,200 House Martins East late morning, 1 Common Sandpiper.

    West End:- 420 Greylag Geese + 11 hybrids, 9 Mandarin.

    West End:- 18 Teal, 4 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 23 Lapwing, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Snipe, 1 Little Egret, 2 Kingfisher.
    Whillet’s:- 1 Stonechat, 1 Hobby, 3 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Chiffchaff and 4 Blackcaps. Also 3 Stonechat and a Wheatear in Vineyard.1 Brown Hairstreak in Meadow #2.

    Whillet’s Meadows:- Slow passage this morning with Blackcap and Chiffchaff being the majority. A juvenile Reed Bunting moulting into adult male plumage was caught. This was the second juvenile caught in the last week. They were at significantly different stages of moult and so probably came from different broods.

    West End:- 2 Osprey over at 11:00 heading east, Black-tailed Godwit at the west end on the point, 2 Marsh Tits, Reed Warbler and 3 Kingfishers.

    Dam End:- Hobby, Raven, Red Kite, several Chiffchaffs and Whitethroat, Reed Bunting male, Marsh Tit, Shoveler, 14 Teal, 3 Green Sandpiper and 2 Little Egret.

    All reservoir counts:  68 Great Crested Grebe, 9 Grey Heron, 7 Mandarin, 29 Mallard, 9 Moorhen, 2 Nuthatch, 3 Jay, 4 Bullfinch, 2 Reed Bunting.
    Dam End:- 2 Egyptian Goose, 1 Kestrel, 3 Common Sandpiper, 144 Black-headed Gull, 1 Common Gull, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 5 Herring Gull flyover,  1 Green Woodpecker, 6 House Martin, 3 Meadow Pipit, 2 Grey Wagtail, 13 Pied Wagtail, 1 Redstart (on fence line of field behind Sailing Club) , 1 Wheatear (on dam wall), 1 Kingfisher, 11 Chaffinch, 77 Goldfinch.
    North Bank:-  1 Grasshopper Warbler (AG) in dam side meadows.
    West End:-  27 Cormorant, 1 Little Egret, 324 Greylag + 8 feral/Greylag hybrids, 220 Canada Goose + 4 Canada/Greylag hybrids, 2 Gadwall, 13 Teal, 1 Sparrowhawk, 5 Common Buzzard, 2 Coot, 15 Lapwing, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Kingfisher, 55 Jackdaw & 1 Rook flyover, 1 Raven heard.   1 Terrapin and 1 Banded Demoiselle.
    Whillet’s:-  1 Hobby (feeding overhead), 1 juv Tawny Owl (ringers), 2 Kingfisher, 1 Sedge Warbler (ringed), 2 Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler, 9 Greenfinch.
    Butterfly count:– 1 Brown Hairsteak, 1 Small Heath, 3 Common Blue, 3 Small Copper, 2 Speckled Wood, 2 Red Admiral.
    At Meadow Pond:- 2 Brown Hawker with a female egg laying, 2 Southern Hawker, 5 pairs of Common Darter egg laying, 1 Azure Damselfly.

  • 15th September 2019 from The Ringers

    There was a movement of warblers through Whillet’s meadow. Most were Blackcap and Chiffchaff; plus Willow Warbler and a Sedge Warbler. Other birds of note: Blue Tits, which seem to have bred well this year, Dunnocks, a Tawny Owl being harassed by two Jays, 2 Kingfishers, 4 Bullfinch and Greenfinch.
