West End:- This morning the shallower areas in front of the hide were frozen with ice, with most of the waterfowl mainly sheltering under the trees where there was open water. Counts: 6 Moorhen, 1 Grey Heron, 1m Mandarin, 1f Tufted Duck, 13 Gadwall, 54 Teal, 6 Shoveler, 19 Mallard, 1 Buzzard, 3 Kingfisher, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Common Gull. Feeders: Usual Blue & Great Tits, singles of Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, Blackbird, 2+ Goldfinch, 6 Long-tailed Tits, 4+ Chaffinch, 2 Robins also a Treecreeper was seen nearby and a Song Thrush at Whillet’s.
Dam End:- No ice but a cold wind; a short visit showed little of real interest – 46 Great Crested Grebe, 42 Cormorant, c110 Black-headed Gull, 1 juv Herring Gull, 1 Grey Wagtail, 1 Jay, 1 Grey Heron.
