WeirWood, after some rather dull days it was nice to have a Hobby to start things off at the dam, where there was also a Common Sandpiper on the dam and a Great Egret on the north bank with Grey Herons. 2 Buzzards were about and a Red Kite. At the west end 6 Lapwings, a Snipe and Stock Dove all feeding together. 3 Mute Swans had joined the Teal numbering 14 and 2 Shovellers. Overhead 3 more Red Kites and Redpolls heard but unseen. 16 Meadow Pipits too flew through.

Members Autumn Walk – 1st November 2025
This will be the usual afternoon walk, heading into the Study Area and onto Pintail Bank to look for fungi. We will then walk over to Whillets Meadows and to the reed bed to observe Reed Buntings coming in to roost.

West end:- 9 Teal, 1 Shoveler, 6 Mandarins, 5 Coot, 30 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Great Black Backed Gull, Kingfisher, 50+ House Martins west, 26 Meadow Pipits south, Mistle Thrush, 5 Linnets, 2 Chiffchaffs, 1 Blackcap.
Only thing I could add was a lovely close view of a female Goshawk at the west end.
At the Reed bed late afternoon just 6 Reed Buntings,2 Chiffchaffs.
Plus Sparrowhawk and 6 Mistle Thrush north.

Weir Wood Reservoir – Dam end:- 7 x Mallard, 3 x Woodpigeon, 4 x Great Crested Grebe, 26 x Black-headed Gull, 2 x Great Black-backed Gull, 1 x Cormorant, 1 x Grey Heron, 1 x Kingfisher, 1 x Green Woodpecker, 6 x Carrion Crow, 1 x Raven, 2 x House Martin
WeirWood on a somewhat gloomy, drizzly morning. At the west end 2 Shovellers, 20 Teal, 7 male Mandarins and a Pochard were noted. A couple of House Martins came through whilst in the c/pk 2 Goldcrests were seen. At Whillett’s once again the Water Rail was rather noisy but remained unseen, here 4 Greenfinches were noted and 2 Reed Buntings.
West End:- 2 x Mute Swan, 8 x Mandarin Duck, 16 x Mallard, 6 x Teal, 1 x Stock Dove, 5 x Woodpigeon, 1 x Moorhen, 3 x Coot, 1 x Little Grebe, 5 x Great Crested Grebe, 4 x Cormorant, 2 x Grey Heron, 13 x Jackdaw, 1 x Carrion Crow, 4 x Blue Tit, 3 x Long-tailed Tit, 2 x Chiffchaff, 1 x Blackcap, 1 x Goldcrest, 2 x Wren, 1 x Blackbird, 2 x Robin
