    Dam End:- 3 Common Sandpipers, 20 Great Crested Grebes.
    West End:- Greenfinch singing in pumpkin field opposite hide, 2 House Sparrows in wheat field near lay- by.
    Whillet’s:- 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Common Whitethroats, 2 Blackcap, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Kestrel. 1 Small Heath Butterfly, 1 Emerald Damselfly, 3 Willow Emerald Damselfly, 1 Black- tailed Skimmer.

    Dam End:- 3 Common Sandpipers, 145 Black-headed Gulls, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Herring Gull, 8 Egyptian Geese, 1 Mandarin Duck, 14 Great Crested Grebes + 2 young, 1 Hobby, 4 Blackcap, 8 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest, 44 Goldfinch, 13 House Martin, 2 Jay, 1 Mistle Thrush, 8 Long- tailed Tit, 1 Marsh Tit, 7 Rook, 2 Swallow, 1 Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler.
    West End:- 1 juvenile Arctic Tern, 2 Coot, 17 Great Crested Grebe including 1 young, 5 Mute Swan, 1 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 Mandarin Duck, 9 Grey Heron, 18 Mallard, 3 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 20 House Martin, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk.
    Whillet’s:- 1 Reed Warbler, 3 Chiffchaff, 9 Goldfinch, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Jay, 1 Kestrel, 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Pheasant, 2 Whitethroat, 2 Wren.
    7 Grass Snake, 1 Common Lizard, 2 Brown Hairstreak, 2 Small White, 2 Green-veined White, 1 Meadow Brown, 4 Brown Hawker, 6 Common Darter, 1 Migrant Hawker, 5 Southern Hawker, 9 Willow Emerald Damselfly.

    Dam End:- 7pm Ringed Plover, 5 Common Sandpipers, 400 Black-headed Gulls,1 Great Black-backed Gull, 3 Mute Swans, 5 Swallows, 1 Mistle Thrush, 27 Great Crested Grebes.
    2 Black Terns reported mid afternoon on Birdguides.

  • 20th August 2024 sightings

    Dam End:- Osprey at 6:50 a juvenile spent 5 minutes mid-reservoir before moving to Ashdown. A few Willow Warblers, in the car park a Marsh Tit and 3 Goldcrests. 2 Common Sandpipers on the dam, 2 Great Crested Grebe chicks, young Robin singing his autumn song.
    West End:- more Willow Warblers, 2 Great Crested Grebe chicks and Mandarins.

    All Reservoir:-  34+3y Great Crested Grebe, 26 Cormorant, 6 Grey Heron, 159 Greylag Geese, 42 Canada Geese, 2 Mandarin, 28 Mallard, 5 Buzzard, 3 Moorhen, 4 Coot, 2 Stock Dove, 4 Kingfisher, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Blackcap, 4 Chiffchaff, 2 Marsh Tit, 3 Jay.
    Dam End:- 8 Egyptian Geese, 2 white farmyard geese, 3 Common Sandpiper, 158 Black-headed Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Great BLack-backed Gull, 1 Sand Martin, 6 Swallow, 6 House Martin, 2 Grey Wagtail, 10 Pied Wagtail, 1 Wheatear, 7 Rook flyover, 80 Goldinch, and 4 Speckled Wood butterflies. Also 2 Red Kite, 1 Peregrine and 5 Buzzard.
    West End:- 3 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Nuthatch, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Raven,  1 Canada x Greylag Goose hybrid, 1 white feral x Greylag Goose hybrid.
    Whillet’s:- 1 Kestrel, Green Woodpecker, 1 Reed Warbler, 100+ Jackdaw, 10+ Carrion Crow flyover, 21 Goldfinch, 1 Bullfinch.
    – Damselflies: 1 Beautiful Demoiselle, 1 Blue-tailed, 4 Willow Emerald, 10+ Azure.
    – Dragonflies: 2 Southern Hawker, 1 Brown Hawker, 1 Common Darter.
    – Butterflies: 5 Meadow Brown, 2 Speckled Wood, 2 Peacock, 1 Small Copper, 2 Gatekeeper,  3 Green V White.

  • 19th August 2024 sightings

    Dam End:- 3 Common Sandpipers on the dam among the Black-headed Gulls. The gulls were spooked by a female Peregrine which had a half-hearted go at them. On the buoys the Great Black-backed Gull was hanging out plus Herring Gulls. A single Sand Martin was with a handful of Swallows and House Martins. Below the dam over 10 Whitethroats plus 2 Willow Warbler juveniles looking very bright. 5 Buzzards and 2 Red Kites along the north ridge. On the fence of the paddock was the bird of the day a smart juvenile Wheatear.
    West End:- Kingfisher was the stand-out bird.

    Dam End:- 8 Egyptian Geese, 1 Mute Swan, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Shoveler, 2 Mandarin Duck, 4 Pied Wagtail, 1 Sedge Warbler in Meadowsweet behind dam, 1 Bullfinch, 60 Goldfinch in paddock, 1 Marsh Tit, 1 Sand Martin, 7 House Martin.
    West End:- 1 Coot,1 Tufted Duck.
    Whillet’s:- 7 Common Whitethroat, 3 Blackcap, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Greenfinch, 1 Reed Bunting, 3 Bullfinch, 7 Goldfinch, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel.
    1 Red Fox, 1 Brimstone Moth.

  • 16th Augut 2024 sightings

    West End:- Shovellers, Great Crested Grebe chicks, 2 Common Sandpipers on the nesting platforms, 3 Kingfishers, Little Egret. 4 Swallows, Marsh Tit.
    Whillet’s:- Little Egret moved here, 5 Reed Buntings, Reed Warbler were present.
    Dam End:- 3 Common Sandpipers on the dam with adult Ringed Plover, Kingfisher, 3 Herring and a Great Black-backed Gull. Below the dam a Common Sandpiper in the outflow plus 3 Grey Wagtails, in the bushes Whitethroat, Willow Warbler and Goldcrest. 3 Ravens flew over, Red Kite and a minimum of 6 Buzzards over the north bank.
    Along the North Bank footpath 2 more Marsh Tits, Sparrowhawk male and another 2 Goldcrests, a beautiful juvenile Hobby flew past low.
